A sulfuryl fluoride is prepared by introducing in a gas-phase reaction step sulfuryl fluoride precursors comprising sulfuryl chlorofluoride and hydrogen fluoride. An Independent claim is also included for an integrated process for preparing sulfuryl fluoride (SO2F2) and optionally sulfuryl chloride (SO2ClF), comprising reacting hydrogen fluoride (HF) with sulfur dioxide (SO2) and chlorine and/or with sulfuryl chloride (SO2Cl2) to give SO2ClF; and a second step in which at least some of the SO2ClF is reacted with HF.
