<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent printing quality from being deteriorated even when the side registration position of the paper is defectively detected. <P>SOLUTION: Regarding the setting of a side registration adjustment value, prior to the execution of a printing job, a side registration sensor is moved to an HP, and in the case of printing, first, a default value is read for every paper, and the default value is set as the side registration adjustment value (steps 100 to 108). Thereafter, unless the home abnormality occurs, the side registration sensor is moved to a standby position, and the side registration position of the paper is detected, and when the side registration position is detected, the adjustment value based on the detection result is changed to the side registration adjustment value (steps 110 to 112).
