An immersion oil for a microscope, characterized in that it comprises (A) norbornane or a derivative thereof and/or (B) a hydrogenated product of a monomer to a tetramer of norbornene or a derivative thereof. The above immersion oil for a microscope exhibits itself a low level of fluorescence and the excitation of the immersion oil by an ultraviolet ray generates a low level of fluorescence and exhibits good levels of other characteristics required to an immersion oil for a microscope, such as a refractive index, an Abbe number, viscosity and resolution, and thus is suitable especially for a fluorescent microscope.
