<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process and an apparatus for producing phosgene in which, as a result of efficient heat dissipation, a gas temperature of below 100°C and a concentration of chlorine in the phosgene of below 50 ppm are ensured at the outlet of a reactor and safe operation is simultaneously performed. <P>SOLUTION: In the process for the producing phosgene by reacting chlorine with carbon monoxide in the presence of an activated carbon catalyst in a shell-and-tube reactor which contains a plurality of reaction tubes and a coolant space surrounding the reaction tubes, the reaction tubes are cooled from the outside through the coolant space with water by evaporative cooling and the reaction tubes are operated at pressure above the pressure in the coolant space. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
