The method involves measuring oil temperature with an oil level. A reference oil level is determined from temporary measurements of another oil level and another oil temperature and from actual measurement of the former oil temperature by linear interpolation. The actual measured oil temperature is compared with the determined reference oil level. A warning or an alert is output depending on the comparison. The actual measured oil temperature is compared with maximal and minimal values. The actual measured oil temperature and oil level are stored depending on the comparison.
