1284048 Anti-skid device F MULLER 19 April 1971 [9 March 1970 17 Nov 1970] 23285/71 Heading B7C An anti-skid device for vehicle wheels comprises a support body 3, a plurality of loops of coiled spring 4, each having a pair of ends forming resilient arms 41 attached to said support body in a substantially star-like configuration and each having a portion 411 bent over the tread of the tyre (as shown in Fig. 1), and, in order to prevent displacement of the loops from the tread of the tyre, connection means 5, which may take the form of a rigid clamp or a resilient coiled spring, between any two neighbouring arms not belonging to the same loop. When the anti-skid device is mounted on a wheel and tyre, the connection means 5 is situated in the region of the side wall of the tyre and extends in a peripheral direction. Additional connection means, of resilient coiled spring, may be provided between the resilient arms of the same loop, said connection means being situated radially closer to the support body than connection means 5. The anti-skid device may be secured to the wheel, hub or axle by means of a hub portion 15 fitting over a bare member 13 secured to the wheel, hub or axle, the hub portion 15 being kept in position by means of a U-shaped yoke 11, the legs (111) of which engage in an annular groove 12a in the bare member (Fig. 5, not shown). Alternative securing means (Fig. 9, not shown) consists of a cap (114) fitting over a bare member (111) and kept in position by spring-loaded pins (113) which engage, via holes in the cap (114), an annular groove (112) in the outer surface of the anchor body, pins (113) being retractable by means of levers (116).
