1319969 Change-speed control SOC ANON DE VEHICULES INDUSTRIELS ET D' EQUIPEMENTS MECANIQUES 18 Sept 1970 [3 Oct 1969] 44700/70 Addition to 1177375 Heading F2D In the power-assisted gear change mechanism of the parent Specification No. 1,177,375 in which the turning movement of a slide-and-turn shaft 1, for gear selection and establishment respectively, is assisted by a pneumatic servo, the double-acting pneumatic servo of the parent Specification is replaced by a pair of single-acting pneumatic servos 61, 62 the pistons 66 of which act in opposition on a control arm 60 of the slide-and-turn shaft 1, and in which the pistons 66 on their faces opposite their pneumatic working faces form together with fixed walls 64 in the transmission mechanism casing 2, damping chambers containing lubricant of the transmission casing to additionally form dash pots controlled by means of one-way diaphragm valves 71, 72 and restrictor throttling passages 69 formed in the fixed walls 64, whereby the gear synchronizing and establishing stroke of one or other servo 61 or 62 is suitably smoothed by damping the second-phase stroke generated by the sudden pneumatic expansion of the appropriate servo at the end of the synchronizing phase. |
