1342154 Diapers UNION CARBIDE CORP 16 Sept 1971 [17 Sept 1970] 43205/71 Heading A5R A disposable absorbent diaper for an infant is formed from an absorbent pad having a topsheet of flexible material for placement against the body of a user; wherein the topsheet is a non-fibrous hydrophobic film having a plurality of substantially closable openings to prevent contact of the absorbent material with the body and to retard the back flow of liquid for the pad. The openings, which are substantially one way valves, may be straight slits between 0.05 and 0.5 inch in length, and there are between 10 to 1000 of them per square inch, so that the pad has the ability to pass at least 20 mls. of liquid within 10 seconds over an area of about 20 sq. inches. The openings may also be punctures. The topsheet may be of ethylene-ethyl acrylate film and may be 10 to 50 microns thick. The pad has an impervious flexible backing sheet of olefinic or vinyl film 10 to 40 microns thick, which is heat sealed around the edges of the absorbent filling to the front sheet which may also be made of the same material as the backing sheet. The absorbent filling may contain insoluble hydrophilic homopolymers or copolymers which form a gel upon absorbtion of water, such as polymers prepared from poly alkylene oxides, polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinylmethyl ether. A perfume may be added to the filling, and tabs or adhesive attached to the pad for connection to the user. |
