Leather and plastic composites - laminated with the plastic layer clamped to prevent differential strength

Composites made by pressing a piece of leather supported on a vacuum plate against a heated layer of synthetic sheet which is gripped by a clamping frame until cooled. Pref. the synthetic sheet is pre-cut to a larger size or advanced in greater steps than the leather pieces used. Esp. for mfr. of shoe making composites used with a PVC surface on a leather lining to obtain sufficient permeability to air. Differential shrinkage and associated creasing which would follow immediate release of hot laminated layers is avoided. Heat transfer to the leather can be kept insufficient to scorch or harden the hide.
