A cutting tool having a flat polygonal insert 18 which is clampable in seating on a tool holder by a pin 50 which engages in a hole 20 in the insert is provided with engageable groove and shoulder 60, 38, on the insert and holder seat, respectively, to prevent movement of the insert relative to the seat when the tool is in use. The groove on the insert is constituted by a flat land 60 whose angle of inclination to the top surface of the insert is opposite to the inclination of the insert side walls. The clamping action of the pin 50, which is of the deflectable head type, urges the land 60 into engagement with the shoulder 38 on the holder. The plane containing the force exerted by the pin head is nearer the base 30 of the seating than the reactive force produced by the engagement between the land and shoulder and this in relation to the inclination of the land produces force components parallel to and normal to the seat whereby the insert is urged into abutment with the seat. |
