<p>Flexible calbe incorporating a steel band for transmitting tensile or compressive forces where the steel band is sandwiched between a pair of loose plastic lining strips having a low coefft. of friction w.r.t. the steel strip. Pref. the plastic inserts have (a) a profile which fits the inside of the cable and the relevant face of the steel strip, and (b) a rounded longitudinal rib which engages a groove in the face of the steel strip to keep the latter centred in the cable. The inserts may be of modified low-press. polyethylene. Suitable for e.g. mechanism operation cables on e.g. automobiles. The liners inhibit buckling of the steel strip or kinking of the outer cable, are less complicated than internal roller bearing cages. Polyethylene profiles ar readily extruded and cut to length, and are cheaper than PTFE, and less humidity sensitive than polyamides.</p> |
