Reducing carbon monoxide content of engine exhaust gases - by adding preheated air side stream to fuel/air mixture

The carbon monoxide content of exhaust gases of an i.c. engine is greatly reduced by branching off a side stream of the primary air from the air filter and passing it through the cam shaft housing where it is preheated. This air is admitted to the fuel/air mixture in the suction pipe via a slide valve, controlled by a Bowden wire from the accelerator pedal. CO content during idling may be reduced to 1% and at full load to zero. The appts is simple and can be readily attached to existing petrol engines.
