The adjacent edges of the fabric or leather etc. parts are joined together with the aid of >=1 connecting element which in turn is moulded in one piece with the base and those parts of material which border onto the base project into it and are rigidly bonded to it when the thermoplastic material is cast. Pref. a shoe is made with an orthopaedically contoured, one piece sole surface with a flexible, foam interior and a robust non-foamed outer layer.
