Dialkoxyxanthogen disulphides for use as mol.wt. regulators in the polymsn. of dienes are of formula (I) (where each R is R1O-(CH2)n-O-(CH2)-, R2O-R2-, (R1O-CH2)2CH-, or R3O-(CH2)m-; R1 is alkyl, R2 is 3-10C alkylene, R3 is 3-10C alkyl, n is 2-4; and m is 1 or 2). Prods. enable mol.wt. of diene polymers to be controlled the polymers having excellent processing characteristics and high strength.
