1368535 Extracting Ni and Co values from solutions LE NICKEL 24 March 1972 [29 March 1971] 14063/72 Heading C1A Ni and Co values are extracted from an aqueous solution by forming nickel hexamine and cobalt pentamine complexes in the solution, adding acetylacetone to the solution to ppt. the Ni complex content of the solution, separating the ppt. from the Co-containing solution, and then recovering Ni and Co preferably by steam treatment of the ppt. and solution. The ammoniacal solution may be that obtained by ammoniacal leaching of a laterite ore, or any other solution obtained by lixiviation to which NH4<+> ions are then added. The acetylacetone is preferably used in an amount of at least 2 moles per gm. atom of Ni<2+> and 3 moles per gm. atom of Co<3+>. The steam treated ppt. and solution liberate NH3 and acetylacetone which may be recycled to an ammonia treatment stage and the acetylacetone contact stage. The Ni ppt. may be washed with concentrated NH3 solution to remove Zn and Cu values. |
