1338333 Rotary woodworking tool K LINCK 26 Jan 1972 [27 Nov 1971] 3661/72 Heading B5L A rotary tool head for forming a flat surface on a trunk comprises chipping blades 11 arranged on the periphery of the tool head for cutting side segments of the trunk into shavings as the trunk is moved past the tool head in a direction perpendicular to its rotational axis. A tool holder 15, Figs. 1 and 2, is rotatably mounted coaxially of the tool head and is arranged to be driven at a higher rotational speed than the tool head, the tool holder having finishing blades 1-6, 1<SP>1</SP>-6<SP>1</SP> and 1<SP>11</SP>-6<SP>11</SP> in the region of its periphery for smoothing an even surface 18, Fig. 2, produced by the tool head. As described a pair of tool heads is arranged coaxially to form flat surfaces 18, Fig. 2, on opposite sides of a trunk. The blades 1-6 of each set are stepped axially of the tool head and may be axially and/or radially adjustable. The finishing blades may be arranged to cut the trunk slightly ahead of the blades 11.
