The cross-linking agent is produced from a 20-80% concentrate of peroxide and molten polymer at temps. just above the m.pt. of the polymer. The granules are added to the (co)polyethylene in a screw extruder at is not >135 degrees C and the mixt. extruded and cross-linked at normal press. and 160-200 degrees C. The prodt. is free of bubbles and cavities, the granular cross-linking agent being readily and evenly distributed in the polymer.
