摘要 1393861 Ion-exchange process BAYER AG 3 May 1973 [3 May 1972] 20972/73 Heading B1J A method for carrying out a countercurrent ion exchange or adsorption process using a vessel which comprises a container 1, a lower plate 2 which is provided with one or more nozzles 4, an upper plate 3 which is provided with one or more discharge tubes 5 and one or more throughflow apertures 7, in which container the space between said lower and said upper plate is filled with ion exchange material or adsorbent 8 and the upper plate is covered by a layer of ion exchange material or adsorbent 9, which may be the same as or different to the material contained between the two plates, comprises an activation or regeneration phase in which the activating or regenerating liquid enters the container at the top 11 and flows downwards through the covering layer and the material between the plates, a rinsing phase in which rinse liquid enters the container at the top and flows downwards through the container, thereby displacing the activating or regenerating liquid, and a treatment phase in which the liquid to be treated enters the container at the bottom 10 and flows upwards through the material located between the plates, leaving the container via said discharge tubes. There may also be a backwashing phase during which backwashing liquid passes upwards through the bed removing fines from the active part of the bed to the part above the upper plate. There must always be more than enough resin above the upper plate to treat the rinse liquid fully so that the upper layer of the active bed is rinsed by liquid at least as pure as the effluent from the unit.
