A charge of ca. 75% scrap, ca. 10% mud from waste water clarification plants (10-12% solids content), 3-5% used oils or slaughter house waste, ca. 5% waste paper or wood, and ca. 5% oil shale is processed in a gas-tight, externally heated rotary furnace, which has an internal transporter screw with about two turns, a charging opening with a conical flange for easy (dis)connection of a cooling chamber, and an axial opening for blowing ammonia soln. and a tar-water mixture into the coking material. Only steam and CO2 are released to the atmos., since sulphur in the rubber insulation is combined in part with the oils produced and the rest can be filtered off. Formation of copper oxide and liberation of chlorine are avoided. Materials recovered are metals (esp. copper), latex binders from rubber, oil fractions and fuel gas.
|
