1343674 Machine tool details MOLLART ENG CO Ltd 26 May 1972 [28 May 1971] 17878/71 Headings B3B and B3C A machine tool comprises at least two toolcarrying units 11, 12, selectively slidable horizontally from an inoperative tool loading or unloading position, to an operative position in which the unit 11 is engageable by an actuating device for moving the unit vertically downwardly into a machining position. Each unit 11, 12, has slots 16 which co-operate with guide rails 18, each of which comprises three sections 18a, 18b, 18c. A head 24 is adapted to be vertically movable on a guideway 23 by a servomotor 25 so as to move a unit 11 or 12 along with section 18b of the guide rail into the machining position. Head 24 has a plurality of output shafts 31 driven by an electric motor 30, and each shaft has a coupling 32 which is adapted to coact with a clutch part 35 on the unit so as to rotate the tools 14 or 15. Locating pins 33 and locking pins are also provided on head 24. Section 18b of guide rail 18 is normally held in line with sections 18a, 18c by counterweights 39. The positions of units 11, 12, are changed by a double-acting servomotor 50 which actuates a bar 53 on which are mounted lugs 54 having a lever 55 pivoted thereto, and the latter cooperate with lugs 57 on the units 11, 12. The sequence of operations may be hydraulically or electrically controlled and may be fully automatic. The tools 14, 15 may be drilling, milling, boring, reaming, tapping, gun drilling, or grinding tools. |
