Catalytic composite for hydrocarbon conversion comprises a porous inert support having combined with it an active complex of SbF5 and HF or SbF5 and HSO3F. The support is pref. activated charcoal, activated carbon or graphite. The catalytic complex is suitably present in an amt. of 5-50 wt %, pref. 10-25 wt % of the support, and the molar ratio of SbF5, to HF or HSO3F is suitably 0.1 - 1:1, pref. 0.5 : 1. The pref. catalyst complex is the SbF5 - HSO3F complex. The catalyst complex may be combined with the support by pilling or impregnation. The composite is particularly useful for alkylation, isomerisation and polymerisation but it may also be used for cracking, disproportionation, transalkylation and dealkylation. |
