1386331 Transducer mountings; track changing MOTOROLA Inc 15 Sept 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 42942/72 Heading G5R [Also in Division F2] A head track-change arrangement is driven from a capstan drive shaft 14 via gearing which when actuated connects the rotating shaft 14 to a head-shift cam 44 to produce a partial rotation of the cam 44, the gearing comprising a gear 10 rotatable with the capstan shaft 14, a segmentgear 50 rotatable with the cam-shaft 42, and intermediate gearing for advancing the cam gear 50 so that a toothed segment 51 thereof engages the capstan gear 10. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, one intermediate gearing comprises a second gear 12 on the capstan shaft 14, a second segment-gear 40 on the cam-shaft 42, and meshed gears 36, 38 mounted on a pivoted arm 18 for selectively linking gears 12, 40. When a locking rod 34 is retracted by a solenoid 26, the arm 18 pivots under spring action 34 and the gear 40 is driven. The camshaft 42 is advanced until gears 10, 50 mesh, after which gear 38 engages a tab 48 on the gear 40, lifting the arm 18 to disengage the gears 36, 38 and allowing locking rod 34 to return. The cam-shaft 42 is driven through gears 10, 50 until a toothless segment 65 of the gear 50 is reached. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, the cam segment-gear 62 is advanced into engagement with capstan gear 60 by a second segment-gear 64 which is loosely mounted on the cam-shaft 66 but is resiliently connected to the cam gear 62 by means of springs (90, 92), Fig. 5 (not shown), which are secured to tabs 84, 86, (82, 88) on the gears 62, 64. The gear 64 is itself initially advanced by a pawl 91 on a solenoid arm 94 until the teeth 75 thereof engage the capstan gear 60. |
