The alloy consists of 70-98 wt.% Ta and/or Nb carbide as the amin component and 2-30 wt.% Ni base binder, consisting of 1-20 wt.% Ni-P alloy contg. 8-12 wt.% P and Ni substd. 15-50 wt.% Mo. In an example, 92 wt.% tantalum carbide of grain size 0.9 mu coated with 1 wt.% Ni-P alloy contg. 11 wt.% P, 3.5 wt.% Mo of 1.1 mu grain size and 4.5 wt.% Ni or 1.1 mu grain side were blended for 48 hours and compacted. The compact was filled in alumina powder and sintered for 1 hour in H2. The alloy was paramagnetic and gold coloured. The Curie point was -113 degrees C (160 degrees K), hardness was HRA 87.5 and the breaking strength was 110 kg/mm2.
|
