<p>Compsn. consists of a monomeric or prepolymeric epoxide opt. mixed with a monomer selected from a lactone or vinyl contg. cpd. (1) (where R1 and R2 are H, alkyl(oxy), halogen, halralkyl, halranyl or carbozolyl) the mixt. being polymerisable to high M. Wt. Through the action of a cationic catalyst; a radiation-sensitive catalyst precursor (II); and a stabilising amt. of a gelation inhibitor (III). (II) is decomposable upon application of energy to provide a Lewis acid effective to initiate polymn. of the compsn; and is an aromatic diazonium salt of a complex halogenide. (III) Counteracts the prematurely formed Lewis acid, and is a cyclic amide, in which the amide N atom is free of H-subsn. (III) is substantially inert to the polymerisable material and the catalyst precursor.</p> |
