1360543 Watches EBAUCHES SA 2 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 5004/72 Heading G3T A timepiece comprises a stem 17 having an inner position in which rotation of the stem moves a selector ring 30 to select one of mechanisms 26-29, and an outer position in which the selected mechanism may be actuated e.g. to set a calendar or hands. As shown the mechanisms 26-29 respectively control a date ring 4, a day ring 2, conventional hands 9, 10, and an additional universal hour hand 8. In the inner stem position, a pinion 32 attached to the stem meshes with a toothing (31), Fig. 4, (not shown), on the selector ring 30 whereby the latter may be rotated until one of notches 33-36 in the ring is positioned opposite the selected mechanism and a corresponding one of function indicators 37 is visible through a dial window 38. Each mechanism 26-29 comprises a lever carrying a wheel; a nose on the selected lever thus enters the notch to bring the wheel into mesh with an operating ring 24. If the stem is then pulled out, a pinion 18 slides on the stem to engage a wheel 23 which meshes with the ring 24 so that rotation of the stem then actuates the selected mechanism. When the stem is pushed in once more, a return ring 58 ensures that all the mechanisms 26-29 return to their rest positions, out of engagement with the ring 24. An alternative arrangement is envisaged in which the selector ring 30 has a single notch. The stem may have a further winding function if the timepiece is spring driven. The stem may also have an innermost position to which it may be depressed against a return spring to control a chronograph hand. The additional hour hand 8 is mounted on a cannon 11 which fixedly carries a ratchet wheel 13 which is engaged by a pawl 14 pivoted on hour wheel 12 so that wheels 12, 11a revolve together in one direction.
