Two rollers may operate together, one removing particles of insufficient charge and the other particles of wrong polarity, or the roller may be divided into sections. The roller may act in conjunction with a development electrode, or may act as a development electrode. Where a sectional roller is used to remove both kinds of undesired particles, and also to act as a development electrode, it is rotated at such a rate that its average potential acts in development. Removal may take place in both cascade and magnetic development apparatus.
