<p>A copolymer of chloro-1,3-butadiene (I) and >=1 monomer of formula (II):- CH2=CR-C(=O)OR' (where R is 1-4C alkyl and R1 is 1-12C (cyclo)(alkyl), contng. units (I) grated to a backbone comprising units (I) and (II), is produced by (a) reacting an emulsion contng. 100 pts. of (I) and 17.7-400 pts. of (II), in an inert atmos., in presence of an anion of an anionic surfactant and an equiv. amt. of a cation while adding a catalyst, (b) maintaining the temp. at 10-60 degrees C. until exhaustion of (I) after which (II) is grafted onto the obtd. backbone polymer, and (c) continuing graft polymsn. until a polymer contng. 15-80% of (II) is obtd. The cation is specif. selected from triethanol-, tri(2-propanol)-, diethanol- and a 1-3 C alkyldiethanol-ammonium, the total amt. of anion and cation being 0.5-10 pts. per 100 pts. monomers.</p> |
