The bed pref. of iron ore, is continuously pierced across its width, by spikes mounted on an endless belt moving above and parallel with, the sinter-plant strand. At a point ahead of the burner an idler directs the belt downwards towards the strand, bringing the spikes into and out of the bed-piercing position. The spikes may be mounted on the underside of the belt or slotted laterally into it by e.g. a spring-loading arrangement preventing blunting or other damage to the spikes by chance contact with an impenetrable portion of the charge.
|
