<p>The piston is cylindrical and can rotate as it reciprocates. It is pinned to the output wheel on the axis of the machine, the distance from the centre of the piston to the pin being the same as the distance from the centre of the output wheel to the pin, but the radii of the two wheels themselves being different. This linkage causes the piston to revolve as it reciprocates and consequently to turn the output wheel. The piston and output wheel have the same angular velocities and rotate in the opposite directions.</p> |
