A methyl methacrylate block is made up of one large and one small section joined by a zone having lowest resistance to shear fracture. Conductors of cold drawn copper are burred in channels passing through the fracture zone and both sections of the block. At one end the conductors form a loop and at the other the ends are connected to terminals. A hardening polyester resin bonds the conductors into the block. A piston powered by a detonating charge strikes the smaller of the two sections and causes a shear fracture at the block weak zone. The conductor has low tensile strength and coeff. of elongation and fractures cleanly. The ensures resistance to environmental hazards and an opaque resin in a transparent block facilitates a visual continuity check.
