1371169 Brightener for fibres CIBA-GEIGY AG 16 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28390/72 Heading B5B Optical brighteners for polyacrylonitrile fibres in the gel state have the formulae wherein B is 4,4<SP>1</SP>-biphenylene, 1,4-phenylene or 2,6-naphthylene, R or R1 is hydrogen, alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, halogen, -SO 3 M or alkoxy with 1 to 4 carbon atoms located in the ortho or meta position to the bridge member, M is hydrogen, alkali metal, ammonium or amine salt ion, X is hydrogen or halogen and A is phenyl which is optionally substituted by alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, halogen or -SO 3 M. The compound has a solubility in water at 90‹ C. of at least 10 g./l. The brightener can be applied to the fibres in a hot counter flow aqueous solution. |
