The lamellar system can be e.g. incorporated into a vessel of the type usually used in gynaecology for closing the cervix (e.g. a cap, capsule etc) and may consist of lamellae arranged opposite each other or concertina-fashion. The distance between the lamellae should be such that the high-density medium (which may be e.g. a conventional physiological fluid contg. innocuous density-increasing additives) is prevented by capillary force from flowing out. The new appts. separates out Y-sperm, so that the sex of offspring can be predetermined, e.g. in animal rearing or in human family planning. The appts. can be used in situ, e.g. placed in the cervix of the female animal to be impregnated with the sepd. sperm.
