1384115 Furylmethyl-benzomorphan derivatives BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM GmbH 7 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971 25 Feb 1971] 5594/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel compounds of the general formula (wherein R is H, CH 3 or CH 3 CO; R 1 is H, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , n- or iso-C 3 H 7 or C 4 H 9 ; R 2 is H or CH 3 or C 2 H 5 , and R 3 is H, CH 3 and C 2 H 5 ) and acid addition salts thereof, may be obtained (a) by reducing a compound of Formula II in which Z1 is halogen, -CHO, -CH 2 OH, -COCH 3 or -CH 2 CHO, or by decarboxylating a compound of Formula II in which Z1 is -COOH; (b) by methylating or acetylating a compound of Formula I in which R is H; (c) by dealkylating, dearylating or deacylating a compound of Formula I in which R is alkyl, aralkyl or acyl; (d) by reacting a compound of the Formula (VI) in which R 4 is H, alkyl, aralkyl or acyl, with a compound of the Formula (VII) where X is a halogen atom or an alkyl- or arylsulphonyloxy group and Z represents R 3 or Z1, and where necessary converting Z or R 4 , (e) by reacting a compound of Formula VI with formaldehyde and a compound of Formula VIII (f) by reacting a compound of Formula VI with a compound of Formula IX in the presence of catalytically activated hydrogen or formic acid, (g) or by reducing a compound of the Formula X and where necessary converting Z into R 3 , dealkylating, dearylating or deacylating R 4 and subseqently, if desired methylating or acetylating to form a compound of Formula I wherein R is methyl or acetyl.
