1414344 Catheters MEDICAL PRODUCTS CORP and E T MFG CO INC 7 May 1973 21715/73 Heading A5R A catheter comprises a tube (1), Fig. 1, (not shown), at least one inflation lumen 3 in the wall 4 of the tube (1), an expansible cuff 6 around the tube (1) and communicating with the lumen 3, wherein the cuff 6 is composed of a low modulus silicone rubber having a Shore A hardness of less than 30, a tensile strength below 700 psi and an elongation of above 1000%. The tube (1) is made of a smooth harden silicone rubber with a rounded insertion tip 14. The cuff 6 has ends 16, 17 flush with the tube (1) and located in a recess 19 therein. The tube (1) may have a generally oval cross-section with a wall of varying thickness in crosssection. The cuff 6 may also have a varying thickness both in the axial and transverse directions. The tube (1) may be used as an endotracheal tube or as a urinary catheter in which case a drainage eye (10), Fig. 8, (not shown) is formed in its distal end which is closed.
