1374219 Stacking E V G ENTWICKLUNGS - U VERWERTUNGS GmbH 2 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 36750/73 Heading B8C Apparatus for stacking mesh mats and for tuning alternate mats about their longitudinal axis comprises at least one gantry 1 forming an arcuate track for a carriage 4, a supporting frame 15 rigidly connected to the carriage and having two opposite supporting surfaces for the mats, and releasable guide and holding devices 20 on each supporting surface to guide a mat as it is being fed on to the arm and to hold it temporarily. In use the lower and upper supporting surfaces are in turn moved into the mat feed plane N to receive a mat and the frame 15 is then lowered till a sensor touches the top of the stack being formed. On upward movement of the frame cams (26) open the lower holders 20 to release a mat. The carriage is moved around the gantry and the other mat is similarly released. The cams (26) are raised either each time a mat is deposited or in steps, or alternatively the stack may be progressively lowered. The holders, which may be adjustably spaced apart, may comprise pivoted strips or electromagnets.
