A method and apparatus for equalizing the moisture content across the width of a paper web as it passes through the dryer section of a paper machine. A felt, which is employed to press the paper web against heated dryer drums, has the path of its central portion extended through a greater length than the path of its edge portions by means of one or more curved rolls. This serves to tighten the felt more in the center than at the edges, thereby equalizing the pressure between the paper and the drums across the width of the paper. |
