1399560 Dicarboxylic acid anhydrides MOBIL OIL CORP 26 April 1973 [8 June 1972] 19870/73 Heading C2C A dicarboxylic acid anhydride is obtained by contacting a C 4 -C 10 alkane with a molecular oxygen-containing gas at 300-600‹ C. with a catalyst comprising the complex reaction produet of a vanadium oxysalt (e.g. oxychloride) and phosphoric acid promoted by a metal selected from chromium, iron, hafnium, zirconium, lanthanum and cerium; the phosphorus/vanadium atomic ratio is between 0À5 : 1 and 2 : 1, and the promoter/vanadium atomic ratio between 0À0025 : 1 and 1 : 1. The process is exemplified by the oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydride at atmospheric pressure, using fixed and fluidized bed catalysts; in one example the catalyst is supported on silica/ alumina. The effects of metals other than the above promoters are described. |
