In a paper machine having in known manner a sieve for the prodn. of the paper web and a felt belt, pressed onto the sieve by a suction roll, for the removal of the web from the sieve, as well as a separating device situated in the sieve zone for the removal of the edge strips of the paper web, the improvement whereby pivotably supported suction devices are provided on the opposite side of the sieve to the suction roll, for sucking the edge strips of the paper web onto the sieve, against which they are held elastically by springs.
