<p>An energy absorber for incorporation into vehicle safety belts. Its main feature is that energy is absorbed smoothly and the body of the wearer is not subjected to a series of peak loads. A fold in the belt at right angles to its length is formed and stitched or woven together for a short length from the crease. Short free portions are left, the ends are then splayed apart and stitched to a transverse piece of webbing to form a T shaped element with a triangular hole at the junction. The centre of the transverse piece may be arranged to yield before, or after load is applied to the stitched crease.</p> |
