1377688 Nut and bolt assembly EATON CORP 25 May 1972 [27 May 1971] 24755/72 Heading F2H A nut and bolt assembly 1, adapted for adjusting the spacing of two members P, S, e.g. in a vehicle head-lamp mounting, is formed as a unitary plastics moulding, two complementary nut segments 4, 5 being joined to the bolt 2 by frangible webs 6. In use, the nut segments are swung about the bolt as in Fig. 5 into face-toface relation and are located together by cooperating pins 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and holes 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, the webs 6 being folded into recesses 24. The nut 3 formed by the segments 4, 5 is a press fit in an aperture A in member S, cut-away slots 22 providing resilience in portions 23 to enable the member to enter grooves 18, and a groove 31 in the bolt head 30 is engaged in the member P. On subsequent rotation of the bolt, the webs 6 break and the bolt may be threaded into the nut. If the minor diameter of the bolt thread is greater nearer the head 30, this part of the thread will be a force fit in the nut and thus serve to resist loosening.
