<p>In a laminate sheet with >=1 outer lamina of wood veneer impregnated with hardenable resin, the surface has a relief structure similar to the natural surface of the wood veneer used, unlike prior art prods. which often have a smooth surface finish with undesirable imitation veneer appearance. In the claimed prods. the surface relief corresponds to the naturally occurring irregular, thicker or thinner, zones of peeled veneer. This is achieved by a process whereby an assembly comprising a plastics core layer, a wood veneer and a resin-impregnated paper layer are subjected to pressure in a press and a metal foil-mat assembly is used on top of the paper layer, the metal foil mat assembly contg. 1 layer which will flow under the action of pressure. This layer may consist of polyethylene and may be situated between a layer of Kraft paper and a very thin Al foil, the latter being in immediate contact with the resin-impregnated paper.</p> |
