The low voltage electric ignition's circuit-breaker cuts off the current at a precise instant of each cycle. This timing is fool-proof and will not change with the engine's speed or its acceleration. It incorporates an earthed, rotating, conducting spindle enclosing a radially sliding contact. Interruption of the low voltage current is effected when the sliding-contact is on top of an insulated contact in the distributor wall. Instead of single insulating contact, the crown may have two or more and thus many ignitions may take place in any one cycle when dual plug heads are used on the engines. The contacts positions correspond exactly to the instant of firing of the spark plug.
|
