The probe is used in instruments measuring electrostatic fields in processing of plastics foil, paper and textile insulating materials. The probe has a housing with a metal portion containing an aperture which is aligned with the lines of force during the measurement. The aperture is in the flat end section of the housing and the end section has a raised collar tapering to a knife edge or a rim of discrete pointed elements.
