Rotary motion of the motor is converted into a translational motion of the control piston of the path valve, which is in the lower part of the cylinder housing, and which controls the supply of pressure medium to the working cylinder. Pref. the motor is an electric motor or stepping motor. The control piston is connected via a threaded spindle with the piston of the working cylinder. The rotor of the stepping motor is attached to the threaded spindle and the free length of this spindle between the piston and the control piston can be altered by rotation of the spindle by the stepping motor, whose stator is fast to the cylinder housing. This gives a simpler and cheaper construction than that required for very precise numerical control of machine tools.
