The appts. consists of a tank with an adjustable outflow hole at the centre of its bottom. This hole is surrounded by a cylindrical collar, projecting into the tank with a hole in its side of a given size; a second cylinder is placed on the first, can rotate on it, and its end projects above the tank cover; it also has a hole at its lower end, and the effective clear size of the hole depends on the second cylinder position relative to the first; the size of the hole is read on an angle scale outside the tanks; the second cylinder has an overflow hole near its top end; water level in the tank is measured by an electric probe.
