1381241 Transportation system MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 15 Jan 1973 [15 Jan 1972] 2090/73 Heading B7L A transportation system comprises a. vehicle 3 levitated above a guideway 5 by electromagnets on the vehicle co-operating with steel rails 6a and propelled along the guideway by a linear motor comprising vehicle-borne magnets 2 and aluminium reaction rails 1, the elements 1, 2 being arranged to face downwardly and upwardly respectively so that on a failure of the electromagnetic support system the elements of the linear motor will move apart and will not be damaged. Emergency support rollers 10 or skids 11 will then come into operation. In the Fig. 2 embodiment lateral guide magnets 7 are provided and the vehicle-borne support and motor electromagnets are longitudinally aligned on the vehicle, preferably with one motor magnet between two support magnets. The support and guiding functions may be combined in a universal vehicle-borne winding extending across the width of the guideway with a D.C. support field and a superimposed A.C. driving field. Fig. 5 shows an alternative embodiment wherein two universal coils 12a and 12b are disposed on both sides of the longitudinal centre plane of the vehicle. The edges of the steel rail 6a extend downwardly at 13 to provide a steering function. Alternatively the aluminium rail 1 may be formed with apertures through which the rail 6a projects with the surfaces of both rails flush. |
