The lines of weakness (4) are formed on the flat of a groove (3) which is formed circumferentially on the lid. The groove is filled internally by a layer of plastic material (9) protecting the weakened metal against corrosion. The ring-pull (6) is held to the lid by a rivet (7) formed from the lid material and passed through a hole (8) in the ring-pull tongue (5) and flattened on top. The inside of the rivet and the area round it which is to be torn off are also protected by the plastic layer.
