PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel property discrimination device that can accurately discriminate properties of fuel supplied into a cylinder of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: An engine 10 is a compression ignition type internal combustion engine, and fuel is supplied from a fuel injection valve 18 into each cylinder 11a. An ECU 40 serving as a fuel property discrimination device includes: injection control means for performing first injection and second injection that is performed after the first injection to inject fuel in a smaller injection amount compared to the first injection, as fuel injection by using the fuel injection valve 18 in one combustion cycle of the engine 10; and property discrimination means for discriminating properties of the fuel on the basis of the heat generation amount of the fuel injected through the second injection.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
