There is a light source which may also provide a source of heat, behind a transparent container, holding a mixture of water and glycerine inside which are immersed different colour balls made from polyester or flexiglass. For domestic use, the container may be mounted on a stand containing an electric light bulb which thus forms the heat source. In another design, the heat source may be varied by a suitable control. The density of the balls is slightly less than the desity of the liquid, and they rise and fall in a random manner, carried by the connection currents as the liquid is heated, the resulting pattern being varied by impact between rising and falling balls.
