Provided is a solid formulation for oral administration as a solid. The said formulation comprises 50-90% w/w polyethylene glycol (PEG) having an average molecular weight within the range 2,000 to 10,000 Da and 10-40% w/w of a solid, selected from the group of solids comprising sorbitol, lactose, dextrates, cellulose, xylitol, maltitol, mannitol. Also provided is a method of therapeutically or non-therapeutically preventing gastrointestinal disorders or of maintaining gastrointestinal health, preferably preventing dehydration of the stool, softening the stool for ease of defaecation, preventing constipation and allowing regular gastrointestinal transit, wherein the main preparation is the above formulation. In an independent embodiment of the above formulation further provided are a chewable or suckable solid formulation for oral administration as a solid, comprising 2.0 to 3.5 g polyethylene glycol (PEG) having an average molecular weight within the range 3,000 to 4,000 Da, 250-550 g solid, selected from the group of solids comprising sorbitol, lactose, dextrates, cellulose, xylitol, maltitol and mannitol, and a method of preventing dehydration of the stool, softening the stool for ease of defaecation, preventing constipation, allowing regular gastrointestinal transit, wherein the main preparation is the above chewable or suckable formulation. Furthermore, provided is a pack, comprising a plurality of units of any of the above formulations. |
